Rob Kadel headshotRob Kadel, Assistant Director for Research in Education Innovation

Rob Kadel is the Assistant Director for Research in Education Innovation with the Center for 21st Century Universities at Georgia Tech. His research spans nearly 20 years, including evaluations of the effectiveness of learning technologies in both K-12 and higher education. Rob brings to C21U research in online pedagogy and effective practices, alternative learning spaces, learning analytics, and tools/strategies to help close the digital divide for economically disadvantaged students. He has presented both nationally and internationally on cutting-edge learning technologies and managing grants, programs, and research in their use. Rob held faculty positions at Penn State University and Johns Hopkins University prior to running his own educational technology research consulting firm for seven years. He continues to teach online courses in the sociology of education, criminology, and juvenile delinquency for the University of Colorado Denver. Rob earned his Ph.D. in sociology from Emory University in 1998.

Amanda Madden, Research Scientist

Amanda Madden headshotAs research scientist, Amanda collaborates on innovative educational research with fellow faculty at the Center for 21st Century Universities. Her work includes research design, facilitation, and project development, research compliance, data analysis, grant consultation and presenting research to a wide-variety of audiences. Her current and previous research includes the implementation of leading-edge teaching methods, digital assessment and instructional design , and social network analysis.  A former Brittain Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in LMC at Georgia Tech, she earned her PhD from Emory University in 2011.

Shawn Staudaher, Research Scientist

Shawn Staudaher headshotShawn Staudaher is a Research Scientist at the Center for 21st Century Universities. He is interested in how machine learning and big data can bring insights to educational research and administrative decisions. Prior to C21U, he worked as a data scientist at ADP and the Data Science for Social Good program at Georgia Tech. He earned his PhD in physics at the University of Wyoming in 2017.
