Dr. Ashok Goel is a professor in the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech. He is also the director of the School's Design & Intelligence Laboratory, and a co-director of Georgia Tech's Center for Biologically Inspired Design. Goel conducts research in artificial intelligence and cognitive science with a focus on computational design and computational creativity. His research posits systems thinking, analogical thinking, visual thinking, and meta-thinking as fundamental processes of design and creativity. His current projects explore systems thinking and analogical thinking in biologically inspired engineering design, visual thinking on intelligence tests, and meta-thinking in self-adaptive game-playing agents. Goel also conducts research into learning science and technology with a focus on learning about complex systems. His current projects include learning about ecological systems in middle school science and about biological systems in interdisciplinary education in biologically inspired design. He typically teaches courses in knowledge-based AI, computational cognitive science, and modeling, design and creativity.
