This Postdoctoral Fellow appointment is annual and renewable up to 5 years.

This position will be exposed to various interdisciplinary and collaborative research opportunities focused on the higher education context. This position will be supervised by a director of research in education innovation at C21U, who will guide practices in the design and methodology of research that aims to enhance at-scale learning and teaching environments. This position will also work closely with C21U faculty and staff, including research scientists, data analysts, and graduate research assistants to solve complex education problems.

The successful candidate for this position will be proficient in quantitative research methods, be knowledgeable in data science and analytics research topics, follow current literature and trends in innovations in higher education, and possess an outstanding academic writing background.

This position is expected to generate compelling research questions, analyze large-scale learning data, conduct high quality research, and publish research work. The candidate is expected to co-lead, with support from a director of research in education innovation, data-driven education research with a special focus on understanding students in various online learning environments, including those from online degree programs.

This position is located in Atlanta, GA and appointment may include remote working.

Major job responsibilities

The major job responsibilities include:

  • Conduct novel research at the intersection of data science, machine learning and education
  • Conduct scientific reviews of research, assessment, evaluation, and statistical analyses
  • Offer educational research support to faculty, staff and administration at C21U and Georgia Tech based on evidence-based data insights and statistics
  • Ensure ethical and secure data practices
  • Prepare as directed, any written products to convey research-based knowledge and information to a variety of audiences
  • Engage in dissemination of C21U research findings and outreach activities
  • Participate in the teaching activities for the Vertically Integrated Project (VIP) Data-Driven Education team

Required Qualifications

A Doctoral degree in education, data science/analytics, cognitive or social science or related field.

Preferred qualifications

Preferences for applicants include:

  • Successful experience with managing large-scale educational data
  • Experience or interest in machine learning and natural language processing techniques
  • Proficiency in programming language including Python
  • Willingness to learn new areas and technologies
  • Record of publications in educational data mining or learning analytics
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with interdisciplinary cooperation and strong teamwork skills.
